CLEANIMG ONLINE / WEB IMAGE WORKSHOP

Prepare a WebP that earns its place.

Export JPG, PNG, or WebP images as WebP. Set the quality, cap the longest edge, and compare the actual output size before putting the file on your website.

Start with the original file when you can. The output table shows dimensions and the change in MB for each image.

02 / MEASURE

Smaller is useful only when the picture still works.

A 4000-pixel photo displayed in a 700-pixel content column sends far more image data than that column can show. Reducing the longest edge can help before you adjust compression. There is no universal quality number: the same 85% setting can treat a plain illustration and a detailed night photo differently.

1Compare the output size in the queue with the source file.
2Open the saved image at the size readers will see.
3Check lettering, hair, thin lines, gradients, and sharp edges.
DECISION NOTES

Match the export to its job

ARTICLE IMAGE

Use the actual display width

If the article column displays an image around 800 px wide, a 1600 px file can cover many high-density screens. Check your theme's responsive image sizes before uploading another full-resolution original.

PRODUCT DETAIL

Protect the close-up

Customers may zoom into stitching, labels, or small material details. Try a larger edge limit and compare exports visually. File size is one requirement; legibility is another.

LOGO OR CUTOUT

Inspect transparent edges

WebP can store alpha transparency. If the source is a transparent PNG, inspect the outline against light and dark backgrounds after conversion. If the source JPG is opaque, the WebP stays opaque.

FORMAT FACTS

What WebP conversion does—and cannot do

Conversion re-encodes the visible pixels into a WebP file. It does not increase resolution or remove a background. A low-quality source remains a low-quality source, even if the new file is smaller.

Canvas export generally leaves camera EXIF data behind. Keep originals if you need those records. Each WebP file is created locally in your browser; this page does not upload images to a conversion server. Sources are limited to 10 MB and 40 megapixels, and output to 24 megapixels to reduce memory failures.

Need a PNG instead? The separate JPG to PNG page explains why a PNG may be larger and why converting does not create transparency.

Questions worth asking before replacing an image

01

Will WebP always be smaller?

No. The source format, dimensions, content, and export quality all matter. This editor shows the percentage change for each file so you can keep the better choice.

02

Can I convert an already compressed WebP again?

Yes, but repeated lossy exports can soften detail. Work from the original whenever possible and compare the new preview carefully.

03

Where are the images processed?

In your browser. Download the results before closing the tab; the temporary output links do not become permanent files on our server.
