Faces, addresses, signatures, identity numbers, screens, medical details, location clues, children, and confidential work can create risk even when the image seems ordinary.
Make a copy and permanently remove details that the operation does not need. A blur may still reveal shapes; a solid redaction applied to the exported copy is easier to verify.
Camera files can contain time, device, orientation, editing, author, or location fields. A browser export often drops many fields, but behavior varies. Check with a trusted metadata viewer when this matters.
Confirm the correct image was processed, private areas stay removed, the file opens, and no unexpected border or transparency appeared.
Delete downloads, empty trash where appropriate, close the tab, and clear browser download records if another person uses the device.
A password, recovery code, private key, full payment card, unredacted identity record, confidential case file, or intimate image needs a controlled workflow approved for that material. Convenience is not a security guarantee.
